My new favorite AI performance

My new favorite AI performance Before last night, Carrie Underwood’s performance of “Alone” by Heart was my favorite. Last night, a Missourian (yay!) stole the crown for me. This kid’s got it.

A singing competition? Riiiight.

Ok, I’m sorry but that was B.S. Yes, I was the world’s biggest Taylor fan last year… but I still didn’t think he was the best singer. (Elliott was, bar none.) So now, for the second year in a row, the competition’s best singer hasn’t made the finals. I really don’t understand those who called [...]

American Idol “Top 12″

Ok so I kind of slacked last week in writing about AI. Basically, this season is weak. The women are waaaaaaaay better than the guys, with few exceptions. I am ready to claim my favorite, Ms. Melinda Doolittle. Honestly, she’s been my favorite since her Memphis audition. The only reason I’ve been hesitant to declare [...]

American Idol Week 1 and a half

I’ve put this off for too long. It’s time for my American Idol rants for the year. Of course, I need to remind my readers that my opinions are the correct ones, and if you don’t agree — well, then you’re just wrong. I’m right. Period. Hmph. :)

With that said, in seasons 4 and 5, I successfully picked the winners early (Taylor at his audition and Carrie in the top 12), but I’m not quite ready to prognosticate this year’s winner just yet. I want to give it another week or two before I stick my neck out.

It’s even more difficult this year because I’m realizing that the American people really aren’t concerned about real talent. Based on my rigorous scientific research (reading the American Idol messageboards), I’ve found that Americans really don’t know what good music is. People are talking about how great certain people are, and they’re really not. Simon keeps declaring that this is a “singing” competition. It isn’t. It’s a competition to be a marketable pop artist, one small facet of which is being able to sing reasonably well. Unfortunately, you’ve got to be able to market yourself to people who wouldn’t know good music if it smacked them upside the head.

At any rate, let me comment on last week.

Yet another reason why I can’t stand Chris Daughtry.

What’s Bugging Chris Daughtry? – CNN/EW I was unimpressed with “Daughtry” all last season. To me, he’s one dimensional, does nothing but scream and yell, and is at best a marginal singer. But whatever. Soccer moms scream when he walks onstage. *puke* When he got voted off, that sealed the deal for me. His reaction [...]

“I write the songs… that suck but still sell…”

Wow. Barry Manilow has the top album in the country? Something is wrong with the world. Mariah Carey is winning Grammys. Barry Manilow is at the top of the charts. (Who is buying these albums???) The good news is that Barack Obama won a Grammy though. Heh. Speaking of music, I’ve already picked out my [...]

In the interest of time, I will forego a clever subject line.

Ok, if Scott doesn’t get kicked off of American Idol tonight, I am going to scream. How bad can someone suck and still stay alive on there? Constantine sucked last night too. I thought Carrie, Bo, Anthony and Vonzell were pretty good. I didn’t really like anyone’s song choices, though. I mean… why didn’t anyone [...]

Happy 4/20, everyone! :)

Went to The Roots concert at the O’Dome last nite. $10 each for third row seats. Awww yeeeeuh. They played a solid two hours. The first 30-45 minutes was kind of blah, but then they started comin’ wit’ it, so to speak. For those of you SNL fans, they did the whole Blue Oyster Cult [...]

I love pseudo-holidays.

The trip to Tallahassee was well worthwhile. I took a “Unit Commander’s Course” designed to give a new Squadron or Group commander the basic knowledge needed to succeed in a new command position. I learned a lot and got some really good ideas to try in the upcoming year. My priorities right now are to [...]
